Privacy policy

Overview

Verbose is a vocabulary app for searching, saving, organizing, importing, exporting, and studying words. Saved vocabulary data is stored locally on your device.

This privacy policy explains what information Verbose stores, when limited information may be sent to third-party services, and how that information is used.

Information you create

Verbose stores the vocabulary content you add to the app, including words, definitions, phonetics, examples, notes, and lists. This information is used to provide the app’s core features, such as saving word lists and studying vocabulary.

Vocabulary content you create is stored locally on your device using Apple’s SwiftData framework. Verbose does not provide user accounts and does not upload your saved vocabulary lists, notes, or custom entries to our own servers.

Dictionary searches

When you search for a word, Verbose may send the searched word to Free Dictionary API to retrieve dictionary information, such as definitions, phonetics, meanings, examples, and audio pronunciations.

Saved vocabulary lists, notes, custom entries, and imported CSV files are not sent to Free Dictionary API. Verbose is not affiliated with Free Dictionary API.

Imports and exports

If you import a CSV file, Verbose uses the file to create vocabulary entries on your device. If you export lists, Verbose creates a CSV file from the lists you select.

Imported and exported files are handled locally by the app. Verbose does not upload your CSV files to our own servers.

Analytics

Verbose uses TelemetryDeck to collect limited, privacy-focused usage analytics. These analytics help us understand how the app is used and improve the product.

The events sent to TelemetryDeck may include basic app activity, such as when the app is opened, when a word search is performed, when a CSV import occurs, when a study session starts, or when other app features are used.

Verbose does not send the contents of your saved vocabulary lists, notes, custom entries, or imported CSV files to TelemetryDeck for analytics. Analytics are not used to sell your personal data or track you across other companies’ apps and websites.

Purchases

Verbose may offer optional premium features through in-app purchases or subscriptions. Purchases are processed by Apple. Verbose does not receive or store your full payment card information.

Data storage

Vocabulary lists and entries are stored locally on your device. Verbose does not operate its own user account system and does not store your vocabulary data on its own servers.

Deleting the app may delete locally stored app data from your device. You can also delete vocabulary entries and lists directly in the app.

Data sharing

Verbose does not sell your personal data. Vocabulary content you create is not sold to advertisers.

Limited information may be shared with third-party services only when needed to provide app functionality or improve the app. For example, a searched word may be sent to Free Dictionary API to retrieve dictionary results, limited usage events may be sent to TelemetryDeck for analytics, and Apple processes in-app purchases.

Children’s privacy

Verbose is not intended to collect personal information from children. Because vocabulary data is stored locally on the device and Verbose does not provide user accounts, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children through our own servers.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
